  • Little White Lies - D&AD Brief
For this years D&AD brief I was given the option to choose which brief I'd like to under take. Having a love for illustration I decided to take the challenge of working to the illustration based brief. This brief to me was perfect, being a huge film fan and having a real interest in the way films are advertised. I was also a regular reader of the magazine the project was for, that of Little White Lies. A brilliant film based magazine, with features on illustrations and culture.

The majority of their covers features the film's main character as a cover star for that issues main story. These are normally regular face on head and shoulder images, using traditional illustration methods. I decided to push the boundaries and take the term Illustration to the next level.

The brief allowed me to choose one of the five films stated. I decided to go for that of the film Super 8 due to my admiration for films which have links to that of Steven Spielberg. Therefore my my cover would have to focus around the main character of Joe Lamb played by Joel Courtney.

Expanding on the term of illustration I decided to do something different and not use traditional methods. Therefore looked for unique ways of creating portraiture. This came in the form of me learning 3D software to enable me to create a 3D paper craft illustrated mask of the main character. This was then photographed to create the final outcome.

To coincide with the illustrated cover, a hardback study book was also created showing my process.

  • What is Research? - Infographic
'What is Research?' was a research lead project which enabled me to take an in-depth look into how research influences designers in industry. This lead me to create an understanding for research methods, styles of researching and how influences are often created. With the findings, it was my task of creating that of a A2 folded broadsheet poster which would showcase and communicate my findings. This came in two parts.

Part one was that of 'My Inspirations' a pull out style A3 folded poster showing an A-Z of musical Isotypes which influence me when designing.

Part two was that of my research findings which came in the from on an A2 folded poster. One side featuring my research, the other showcasing that of my conclusion and personal views.

This can then be used as a send out to potential employees, to show the methods and understandings of how important research is within design.

  • Illustrations of Popular Culture
Even though I mainly work in the graphic design field, I have been lucky enough to take part in many illustration projects both commercial and personal. Over several years I have developed a style of illustration using water colour paint to create black and white portraits.

  • Idolise - Exhibition Design
The Design Museum of London set me the task of creating an exhibition, around the theme of collections. This was to take place at the Design Museum Tank on the bank of The River Thames. The brief allowed me to choose a collection of my choice and in respond creating a exhibit proposal and also that of a catalogue showing the collection in more depth.
